A college professor laid out his teaching philosophy on the first day of class: “If you allow me, I will teach you as much as I can in these few short weeks, but if you defy me, I guarantee that you will learn nothing. You will not like everything I tell you, but if you follow my instructions, you will leave these class much better thinkers than when you came in.”

The professor was a task master who demanded perfection from his students. Many students who were too lazy to put forth the actual effort, lost interest and complained about the strict grading and disparaging comments. The few extremely dedicated ones, found their professor to be one of the finest they ever had, and they valued his opinion above all others. This man helped them become better than they thought possible.

God offers us the same deal. If we are open to His leadership, He will help us achieve our full potential. However, if we resist His help, we can never hope to achieve that goal. Wise men and women get to be smart by listening and trying to improve themselves. They are never satisfied with whom they are today, but they always look forward to what they can become tomorrow. Proverbs 9:9 say it best: “Instruct the wise and they will be wiser still;  teach the righteous and they will add to their learning.”

So Let no one deceive himself brethren. If anyone among you seems to be wise in this age, let him become a fool that he may become wise. For the wisdom of this world is foolishness with God. For it is written, “He catches the wise in their own craftiness”; and again, “The Lord knows the thoughts of the wise, that they are futile.” Therefore, let no one boast in men. For all things are God’s: whether Paul or Apollos or Cephas, or the world or life or death, or things present or things to come—all are God’s. And you are Christ’s, and Christ is God’s” (1 Corinthians 3:18-23).

Attend a local Earth Day event and join one of our Earth Day campaigns as we collect A Billion Acts of Green® and elevate the importance of environmental issues around the world.

The earth is the Lord’s, and all its fullness,
The world and those who dwell therein.
For He has founded it upon the seas,
And established it upon the waters. (Psalm 24:1)

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made. In Him was life, and the life was the light of men. And the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it (John 1:1-5).

“O our God, will you not judge them? For we have no might against this great multitude that is coming against us; neither know we what to do: but our eyes are upon you’ (2 Chronicles 21:12).

King Jehoshaphat was confounded by the size of the army that was coming to attack Israel. So, instead of relying on his own wisdom and the strength of his army, he sought God’s intervention; he prayed:

“O Lord, God of our fathers, are you not God in heaven? You rule over all the kingdoms of the nations. In your hand are power and might, so that none is able to withstand you. Did you not, our God, drive out the inhabitants of this land before your people Israel, and give it forever to the descendants of Abraham your friend? And they have lived in it and have built for you in it a sanctuary for your name, saying, ‘If disaster comes upon us, the sword, judgment, or pestilence, or famine, we will stand before this house and before you— for your name is in this house—and cry out to you in our affliction, and you will hear and save.’ And now behold, the men of Ammon and Moab and Mount Seir, whom you would not let Israel invade when they came from the land of Egypt, and whom they avoided and did not destroy—  behold, they reward us by coming to drive us out of your possession, which you have given us to inherit. O our God, will you not execute judgment on them? We are powerless against this great horde that is coming against us. We do not know what to do, but our eyes are on you” (2 Chronicles 20:5-12).

In your own strength and in your own wisdom you are vulnerable, but God never wants you to be in a place where you are dependent upon yourself. God never wants your confidence to rest upon your own understanding.

  • It is one thing to know that there is a great enemy against you; it is another to know that God is greater than any enemy you face.
  • It is one thing to know that you are weak; it is another thing to know that God is all-powerful.
  •  It is one thing to know that you don’t have all the answers; it is another thing to know that God has perfect wisdom, knowledge and understanding.

You will never face defeat as long as your eyes are upon, and your trust is in the One who knows no defeat.

President George W. Bush stands with Federal R...

Image via Wikipedia

There is much talk coming from both the right and the left, as well as from the Tea Party and Independents that the country’s economic woes is a direct result of president Obama’s failed economic policies. But nothing could be further from the truth. This is a lie crafted and perpetrated by Republicans to divert blame from the banks.

So, all this talk that Obama care is a jobs killer, Obama is destroying the country and his economic policies do not work are all exaggeration. In fact, nobody is Yet to put forward any credible evidence to support these claims. This is nothing but political rhetoric aimed to cloud the minds of people who do not check the fact for themselves.

Yes, the country is going through tough economic times and everybody is expecting their president to do something that will ease the pain and suffering. And when that does not happen and people gets frustrated they blame the president. But when the political rhetoric coming from the right is peeled back we will see that the up and down swings in the stock market is directly related to what is going on in Europe.

I am sure we can all remember what happened to our economy in September of 2008. It collapsed and caused a worldwide recession which we are still recovering from. We now know that the worldwide recession was due to shady banking and trading practices by Wall Street. The economy was so bad that all the major banks on Wall Street was in jeopardy of failing. In fact, Lehman brothers did fail and set off a domino effect.

On September 16,2008 Paulson teamed up with the Fed’s Ben Bernanke to engineer the $85 billion federal bailout of AIG. And On Sept. 19 2008, Henry Paulson, then Secretary of the Treasury told the nation that “hundreds of billions of dollars” $700 billion— their dollars — were needed to “be big enough to make a real difference and get at the heart of the problem and “stabilize the system.” This is on top of the estimated $200 billion in capital and credit lines committed by Paulson to Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac — capital that he promised he wouldn’t be injecting into those two government-sponsored entities in August ( “We have no plans to insert money into either of those two institutions.”)

So, when president Obama took office he inherited an economy that was over the cliff. The country was losing thousands of jobs monthly and banks and businesses were folding in great numbers. The country was in a recession and the data now shows that it was the worst economy any president has ever inherited since The Great Depression of the 1930s.

There is nothing in any of the legislations passed under the Obama administration that one could truthfully say is killing jobs. yet, even many in the media are repeating this lie that Republics have crafted. (click on link http://thomas.loc.gov/cgi-bin/bdquery/L?)

The U.S. economy slammed into a wall in August, failing to add any jobs for the first time in nearly a year and ratcheting up pressure on President Barack Obama to find a way to kick-start the lagging recovery.

The negative jobs growth, along with news of Europe’s stalled efforts to aid debt-stricken Greece, rocked financial markets. The Dow Jones Industrial Average dropped 253.31, or 2.2%, to 11240.26, despite talk that the labor-market woes may spur the Federal Reserve to step in with more monetary support. Investors piled into safe-haven investments, sending gold up 2.6%. The yield on the 10-year Treasury, which falls as prices rise, briefly fell below 2% for just the second time in more than 50 years.

The GOP, including the current band of presidential hopefuls spared no time in blaming president Obama for the poor performance of the US economy.

But should the president be blamed for the poor showing of the US economy? I think the president deserves some blame, as are members of both houses of Congress.

According to the Constitution of the United States; Congress is the legislative body of government and it has failed to legislate the appropriate laws that would ensure a stable economy.

So all the talk about the president killing the economy is not true. It does not matter what great plan the president has–it must pass through both houses of Congress and Republicans are not allowing that.

Branches of Government

The Founding Fathers, the framers of the Constitution, wanted to form a government that did not allow one person to have too much authority or control. While under the rule of the British king they learned that this could be a bad system. Yet government under the Articles of Confederation taught them that there was a need for a strong centralized government.

With this in mind the framers wrote the Constitution to provide for a separation of powers, or three separate branches of government. Each has its own responsibilities and at the same time they work together to make the country run smoothly and to assure that the rights of citizens are not ignored or disallowed. This is done through checks and balances. A branch may use its powers to check the powers of the other two in order to maintain a balance of power among the three branches of government.

The three branches of the U.S. Government are the legislative, executive, and judicial. A complete diagram of the branches of the U.S. Government may be found in the U.S. Government Manual (PDF).
